Storm the Statehouse from Somerville

On May 17, 2013, in Latest News, by The News Staff

Over one hundred fifty motorcycles under Somerville Police motorcycle escort took part in the "12th Annual 2013 Storm the Statehouse" ride Thursday morning.

The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA), the organizers of the ride, are hoping that state legislators will acknowledge their requests regarding motorcycle safety issues, motorcycle

insurance and statues as well as licenses, regulations and laws concerning motorcycles.

The biker’s ride originated from different staging areas from across the state and gathered early morning at the function hall donated by the Somerville Lions Club located on New Washington Street in Somerville.

The bikers were treated to a continental breakfast and a quick meeting by the MMA before their noon bike ride journey to the Massachusetts Statehouse in Boston was underway.

Also in attendance for the ride were representatives from the "Disabled and Limbless Veterans Association" who are in full support of the MMA’s organization and its causes.

Why Join

We are a volunteer organization of concerned brothers and sisters who share a love of riding and a belief in personal rights. People of all colors, creeds and nationalities united by a common goal: The freedom to ride safely, with dignity and without hassles. Although our work is important, the MMA is not all work! We have a variety of good- time annual events such as our 3-day Fall Round Up, Bike Raffle, Valentine's Day Party, Annual Christmas Party, Lacey Packer Toys For Local Children Run, Storm the Statehouse Lobbying Day, as well as monthly District and County meetings.

With new, vigorous and openly discriminatory assaults on motorcycling freedoms appearing as bills on Senate and House floors across our state and nation, it is critical now more than ever that every motorcyclist support an active rider's rights group.

In the State of Massachusetts that group is The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association. Since 1975, we have been representing motorcyclists' best interests at the State House, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Insurance Commission, Governor's Highway Safety Bureau and other government agencies. We have acquired a record for being effective, and a reputation for being informed, credible and influential.

MMA active volunteer members work hard to correct misconceptions and eliminate stereotypes attributed to motorcyclists by educating the general community through our charitable works, such as canned food collections, adult and children's charities, and our highly acclaimed Lacey Packer Memorial Toys for Local Children Run.

From 1975 through 2000, we were known as the Modified Motorcycle Association. We changed the name to better represent all motorcyclists here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The MMA is the voice of all Massachusetts Motorcyclists no matter what motorcycle we ride!

Our dues are nominal and our tasks are monumental. As a not-for-profit corporation we need your support! An organization of volunteers fighting for motorcyclist rights need a strong, large membership to win the battle against a much larger, more powerful, and better-funded foe. Become an active part of your future and join now! Then make it your MMA! You Decide. It's Your Ride. It's Your Rights.
